I am back...

So it's been almost six years... whoops... how time flies! Why haven't I been blogging? I dunno... somehow life just got too hectic. So much has happened over the past six years... Reading my last post I almost wish I could go back to that time... a time when I thought life was complicated yet seems much simpler than it is today.

Back when I wrote that post I was in a long term relationship of almost ten years. Today, another relationship and a heck of a complicated situation later, I am as single as can be. Not entirely sure that I am happy with this situation even though I claim to be...

On the job front, I am finally somewhere that I can see myself make a difference. Three months into my new job, I am loving the work I do and the people I work with. Also have my hands in my own little venture with the best buddy and hoping it will flourish this year. There comes a time when you need to be your own boss...

Life has certainly been a roller coaster ride, and I sometimes feel like I'm about to be thrown off. So much heartache over the last few years - do I really need to keep going through this every single time? Enough already... where's that happy ending we read about in fairy tales when we were kids? But you know what - I've learnt my basic mistake. Don't bottle up your feelings cos you feel you don't want to face the drama. Sometimes you just gotta say what you have to say regardless of the consequences...

This year I will work on me! Put myself first.. think about what I want... And hey maybe things will work out for the better. I will think positive thoughts no matter what, and most importantly, I will not give up on hoping that my happy ending is fast approaching...

Launched!!

It all started about 1 1/2 months ago. I was given the sudden news that we were to have the company launch in a month and I had to organise it. My first thought was Gulp!! Never done this before on my own... what should I do?? Where should I start??

The boss told me that I could hire someone for a month to help me out. So I sent out a text to my entire phonebook asking for help!! I actually got a lot of responses from my friends.. kind souls :) .... and then one of my good buddies [and dance teacher :) ]MB said he would be willing to help out. I was absolutely thrilled cos he is so much fun to hang out with and I knew he would be responsible and is someone I could count on. Put the idea across to the big boss (who was kinda disappointed I wasn't hiring a girl but was willing to trust my instincts on this anyway) and we were good to go.

That was the beginning of the mad month to come. The next few weeks were spent ribbon hunting, getting table decor done, designing banners and backdrops, eating lunch in the car in a random car park, going all the way to other end of town to video the entertainment for the event in order to get approval from the management.... and having a whole load of fun in the process.

Im sure I've mentioned before that not everyone at my work place is nice and helpful. In fact most of them were trying to find fault with everything we did and made life a real hassle. Luckily for me MB was around and he made sure I wasn't stressed by what anyone said. He handled things absolutely perfectly and was even way ahead of schedule. I was thanking my lucky stars that he was there. The big boss was also very nice about it all... let us do things the way we wanted... always asked me if I needed more help... and made sure I wasn't overly panicked by anything when I went to him with issues.

I was actually starting to look forward to going to work again and remembered the fun times I used to have with the old team. I once again enjoyed my job and our little department which consisted of me and MB and my other 2 buddies at work had loads of fun. We even nicknamed ourselves the Bear Family :) Yours truly of course was Goldilocks :)

The night before the event I was pretty much a nervous wreck. Didnt help that there was an all island power cut and I had had no sleep and went to work looking and feeling like a zombie. By 1 that afternoon myself, we took off to the hotel. The boys had a heap of work since we decided to do everything - including putting up the backdrop - ourselves in order to cut costs. I knew MB would make sure everything was perfectly done so after a few hours I left the boys to their work and took off to go get my saree draped. When I got back to the hall it all looked so pretty and everything was done.. wow... I couldnt even believe it. It looked absolutely stunning. They had done a super job!!

The guests started pouring in and there were way more people than expected. I was thrilled... the event was turning out to be a success!! By the end of the night, without any food and after a few Mojito's, I was dancing the night away. Me being the only girl did not really affect me in my rather 'high' state.

It was a happening night. Turned out really great and a whole lot more fun than I expected. It was all thanks to MB without whom I would never have been able to organize the event so well. He deserves a big round of applause for all that he did and all that he had to put up with in his month at my office. Today was his last day at work and man am I gonna miss having him around :(

Guess its back to the lonely life at work again...

The Good Girl

She was always smiling and looked happy and cheerful all the time. A stranger would think that this girl was someone who wouldn't let anything get her down. Even if something was wrong she would keep up the cool exterior and not let anyone know she was crying inside... Only the few people who knew her really well could see what was going on and yet even to them she would hardly open up.

She is afraid. Afraid to admit that something may be wrong... Afraid to admit that sometimes she is just not happy with life and is unsure of whats to come... Afraid to hurt feelings by admitting so... Afraid of being rejected and alone... Afraid to just be herself...

She wishes things were as they were some years ago... when life was simpler. She wishes everything hadn't changed so suddenly. She wishes she still had that same feeling of comfort of looking forward to a happy future that she had back then.

But there is no one to reassure her cos no one knows what is going through her mind. So she puts on a wide smile and gets ready to face yet another tomorrow...

Monday Blues...

Monday!! Ughhh don't you just hate the word?? At the end of every weekend I get the feeling of having a ton of weight put back on my shoulders and every Sunday night I wish that I didn't have to wake up early and go to work the next day... I'm sure a lot of people can relate to that feeling.

But here I am... bored out of my skull... with a ton of work waiting to be done that I just can't seem to be able to do right now. Sigh...

Oh well... at least there's something different about this Monday... there's the long weekend to look forward to. Yay!! :D

And now.. back to work...

Jungle Madness

2 days of absolute fun with the bestest bunch of friends... life just couldn't get any better!!

The trip to Yala was awesome, full of fun and moments of madness. The drama started off with a message in the wee hours of the morning from one of the guys telling me that the cab he had ordered for us to go to the train station was an 8 seater... but there were 11 of us... plus our luggage. Knowing us, this type of incident is expected!! So myself and two others decided to go ahead to the train station in a tuk and get the tickets. There, we encountered an extremely rude man who let us keep our luggage on a chair that was just lying around nearby but absolutely refused to let us sit in it!!! We made our way to a bench and settled down to wait for the others.

The rest of the gang finally arrived 1 hour later and we all greeted each other in loud excitement. Got a lot of stares from the people around who were probably wondering where we had landed from!! When the train made its way to the station we did not know which the 2nd class compartments were and there was a mad dash to find it. On the way, Lady Divine had a bit of an encounter with an old lady who in turn tried to take out her anger on Drama Queen!! Finally we made it inside the train only to find that it was packed and there were hardly any seats. Though myself and the rest of the gals got seats, some of the guys had to stand for most of the ride until seats became available.

When we reached Matara we had a cab waiting for us and it was off to Cargills to buy the food. Stopped for lunch after the shopping and then took off for Panthera Lodge. It was quite a long ride but we finally made it there. Panthera Lodge was a lovely place, with a big hall that had all the beds lined up together, clean bathrooms of which one had an open air shower and even a very friendly doggy that we decided to call "Soma." That first night we played all sorts of fun games, laughed our heads off, had an extremely yummy chilli filled dinner and then it was off to bed (under the nets to keep away the bugs) which took some time since there were episodes of giggling and trying to scare one another and basically us just doing our usual crazy things.

At 4 in the morning we woke up to get ready for the safari. I had never been on one before so I was quite excited about it. Turned out to be just awesome!! We caught a glimpse of the leopard, saw a lot of deer, plenty of crocs and even a fox that ran away with a carcass of a deer. I've never really been the out-doorsy type but this was just fabulous. I wanted to stay in the park with all those creatures and just live there in the wilds without a care in the world.

We had a yummy, out-of-this-world BBQ that night and then sang (well tried to sing cos we didnt really know a lot of song lyrics) while one of the guys played the guitar. Then we filmed a very hilarious home movie which had us all in fits of hysteric laughter while acting it out. At around 12.3o am the cab to take us back to the Matara train station arrived. The train ride back was on one of the newer trains so it was more comfortable than our first ride and wasnt as crowded either so we all got seats this time around.

It was sad to leave the gang when we got to the Fort station. The trip brought back a load of memories of times when we all used work together and have so much fun. It made me realise yet again how much I miss them and all our madness. No place can compare to it and no team can compare to what we had... and still have.

Someday... we WILL reunite. Watch out, world!!! :)
